Inspiring Confidence and Women in Mathematics

Numbers can be intimidating, but math doesn’t have to be scary! Meet Brittany A. Rhodes, founder and General MATHager of Black Girl MATHgic. With over 15 years of math tutoring experience and a degree in Mathematics from Spelman College, Brittany has made it her mission to help girls build the math confidence they need to succeed in class today and society tomorrow.

Black Girl MATHgic is the first and only monthly subscription box curated to increase math confidence and decrease math anxiety in girls on a 3rd-8th grade math skill level. Each box contains an engaging math activity booklet, items to support the activities, an affirmation to inspire confidence, a profile of a black woman mathematician, and a Caring Adult Guide. The box is curated for black girls, who endure unique struggles as a doubly marginalized group and sit at the intersection of wide racial and gender gaps in STEM education. But the math confidence the Black Girl MATHgic Box offers benefits girls of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Plus, they learn more about black history, which is American history. Win-win!
