When it comes to advocating for children’s health and wellness, Andrew Stein is a name that immediately comes to mind. Stein has spent the last seven years serving as the executive director of City Year Detroit, a nonprofit organization that focuses on education and mentorship for young adults in schools. During this time, he also served as the senior vice president for national advancement at City Year, Inc. Under his leadership, Stein exceeded fundraising targets each year and doubled the organization’s annual revenue.
Stein’s experience in nonprofit leadership is impressive. As the Executive Director of City Year Detroit, he managed the organization’s operations in Michigan and Metro Detroit. He managed a $7 million annual budget and a team of 140 people who worked with 7,000 students in Detroit schools. Stein’s accomplishments include securing over 75 new major gifts ranging from $10,000 to $3,000,000 and increasing unrestricted net assets from a deficit of ($830,000) in FY16 to a surplus of $4,000,000 in FY22.
